Kerkyra lies just off the coast of Epirus, is about 36 miles (58 km) long, and about 17 miles (27 km) wide with an area of about 230 square miles (595 square km). Fairly maintainous, the island's highest peak is Pandokrator (2,972 feet -906 m high) in the north highlands.
The island is well watered and very fertile with olive, fig and citrus trees, grapes and corn etc, and as a result is considered as having the most attractive countryside of the Greek islands.
