Red easter eggs

Directions

  1. Carefully wash and dry each egg. Set a large pot of water to boil. Add a red dye or food coloring and 3/4 cup of vinegar to the water, and boil for a few minutes.
  2. Slowly lower the eggs into the pot, and when the water comes to a boil, lower the heat.
  3. Let eggs simmer for 15 min., then remove them carefully from the pot. If you plan to cook more eggs, add an additional 2 tbs. vinegar to the water.
  4. Wipe cooked eggs with an oil-soaked cotton ball, then wipe each egg with a clean dry cloth.
  5. Place on a platter. Serve cold.

Traditionally the eggs are colored red but, as you can see in the picture, is is quite common to use other colors as well.

  • Uncooked Eggs
  • Water
  • 3/4 cup Vinegar
  • Red food dye or coloring
  • Vegetable oil
  • A few cotton balls

    I think it would be very helpful to have amounts, such as how many eggs this will color, how much water to use (as the water will dilute the vinegar and food coloring), and of course, how much food coloring for the amount of water and eggs. The only measurement is the vinegar.
