This salad varies from region to region in Greece, but the vinegar is a must, how else would the papara (dunking of bread) taste sooooo good?

Hi!!!My Dad is actually Greek and it is wonder ful to put in some black olives too…..yummm….

    • I am greek and we have americanized the greek salad to fit the pallette of the americans here in the states. If you go to greece the salata comes in a very different way. Horiatiki is romaine lettuce and scallions dressed with olive oil and red wine vinegar with sea salt and coarse black pepper. The authentic greek salad as served in Athens is home grown tomatoes, cucumbers, scallions, sea salt, coarse pepper, olive oil and fresh oregano. The tomatoes and olive oil marry to give you the vinegarette dressing that you dip your homebaked horiatiko bread into.

You can wisk a little anchovie paste into the dressing also. Everyone who “hates” them wants to know what that great extra taste is.

  21. you would be breaking the law in Greece by adding anchovies to Greek Salad and still calling it THAT!!

  22. i forgot to add that we also put green pepper
